Lead Avionics Technician

Job Summary

This position requires a strong knowledge of aircraft airframe, avionics, and electronics systems. This job includes varying amounts of parts replacement or repair, electrical troubleshooting, and general mechanical applications.

Supervision of the team and direction of project flow will be a primary function.

Work order processing, logbook, entries, required FAA forms and pricing to the customers are routine duties. Will be required to work independently and lead multiple projects. Will have direct customer contact. This position will be supporting a variety of airframe manufacturers.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Include but not limited to:

  • Troubleshoots and repairs existing systems.

  • Installs, wires, and mounts avionics systems and accessories in aircraft.

  • Receives customer orders from Avionics Manager.

  • Analyzes details of installation.

  • Determines overall project solutions and methods.

  • Determines correct interface of equipment being installed.

  • Pulls appropriate parts.

  • Creates or otherwise obtains proper wiring diagrams per specifications.

  • Fabricates equipment shelves per customer specifications.

  • Fabricates and installs antenna doublers.

  • Modifies existing instrument panels or fabricates new panels.

  • Properly programs / configures installed equipment.

  • Inspection and evaluation of the aircraft and components when designated.

  • Lead or work independently on projects on a regular basis.

  • Work within a team process and lead team members.

  • Completes configuration sheets and all other paperwork required for FAA approval of the installation.

  • Performs final testing using appropriate test equipment.

  • Coordinates customer installation projects with various departments to ensure projects are completed within deadlines.

  • Maintains effective relationships with management, staff and other departments to deliver high quality service to customers and the organization.

  • Promotes a safety culture that supports and encourages employees to go beyond the call of duty to identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and are comfortable intervening to correct inappropriate behaviors and concerns.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the quality improvement process and the philosophy of continuous improvement; identify and respond actively and with sensitivity to the needs of all customers; participate as a team player in all phases of the organization; and is open and responsive to change.

  • Provide customers with knowledgeable, courteous, and prompt service always.

  • Adhere to Synergy’s safety standards, policies, and expectations.

 Qualifications and Job Requirements

  • 5-year prior experience on aircraft avionics maintenance installations preferred.

  • 3-year prior Garmin installation experience.

  • Experience in supervision of other technicians.

  • FAA paperwork, work order and billing process experience.

  • Electronics training classes.

  • Avionics system factory training required.

  • FCC License preferred.

  • A&P License preferred.

  • Garmin avionics experience preferred.

  • Corridor maintenance software experience preferred.

  • Post-secondary education or training in aircraft maintenance or equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.

  • Demonstrated use of hand tools and equipment.

  • Minimum 18 years of age.

  • High School diploma/GED.

  • Strong Interpersonal skills and ability to work harmoniously with others.

  • Willing and able to work occasional weekend on-call airline maintenance.

  • Willing to travel to other locations to provide maintenance services.

  • Must hold a valid passport and legal right to work in the United States.

  • Must have working knowledge of FAA regulations.

  • Must fulfill FAA drug testing & criminal background checks to qualify for employment.

  • Must be able to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US Customs security.

  • Must possess excellent customer relationship skills.

  • Must hold strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Must be able to take initiative without direction.

  • Must be flexible to what could be an ever-changing environment.
